Vans is an American apparel, accessories, and skateboarding shoes brand. It was founded on March 16, 1966, in Anaheim, California, by brothers Paul and James Van Doren, along with partners Gordon C. Lee and Serge Delia. Originally known as "The Van Doren Rubber Company," it was unique for manufacturing shoes and selling them directly to the public. Vans quickly gained popularity within the skateboarding community due to the durability and grip of its vulcanized "Waffle Sole" shoes. Over the years, the brand became synonymous with action sports and youth culture, expanding its product lines and sponsoring various events and athletes in skateboarding, surfing, snowboarding, BMX, and motocross.
